ARKReiki - FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

If you have a question that is not answered here, please use our contact form.

1. How should a layman know that a particular healer/Master is good for her/him?

As with any discipline, whether it be allopathic, homeopathic, or spiritual healing, the proof is in the results.  The person seeking healing should first seek God in prayer to direct whom S/He chooses for the healing team and discipline.  Any negative results (as in a worsening of the condition) are a sure indication that things are not working out.

2. How can a Master ascertain that the person coming for a II degree course has been attuned in the I degree ?

Any teacher taking on students from another teacher/discipline may require that the new student audit the first level course.  This will align the student with differences in philosophy, method, etc.

3. Can Reiki I, II & III degrees be given simultaneously or should there be a gap between them?

There should be a 21 day self healing after level 1, another 21 day emotional self healing after level 2, and a 40 day self healing after level 3 before any interning starts.  The reason is to allow the student to deal with personal issues, to clear the communication with God (some people are not destined to be healers, but only to heal themselves).  Simultaneous attunements are done, but would you trust an MD who went to medical school for one year instead of the traditional 4?

4. Who is entitled to receive the Master's degree?

Each person who is a teacher will not resonate well with all who approach him/her for training at any level.  The teacher must set standards for his/her teaching.   Once this is done, then the teacher must make entrance requirements for students.   One example is this: would you accept a person as a student who has the word "nigger" in his vocabulary?  Why or why not? Taking on all students can lead to a changing of focus away from God to a smaller god (money, numbers of students, etc.) which will result in a teacher losing his/her good reputation and ability to attract quality students in the future.

5. Some Reiki groups profess the secrecy of the symbols, while others openly publish them in a book. Which is correct?

Both.  Secrecy is necessary at the higher levels to protect unwary people from inadvertently misusing symbols or techniques as well as to prevent those with bad motives from using such things to their own ends.  Since most of the symbols are published in books, secrecy may seem to be impossible.  However, the USE of these symbols may remain secret for a teacher to pass on to his/her students.

6. There is a great variation in the charges for Reiki attunement, by different Masters. Can it not be standardized? Can there be a system wherein a Reiki Master must get registered to get a license to practice it?

There are attempts under way to standardize.  In the US, several states (i.e. Florida) the massage therapists are trying to take over Reiki training and make it necessary to get a LMT degree in order to practice Reiki.  Also, the traditional Reiki group headed by Takata's granddaughter, Phyllis Furumoto, is trying to sift through the teachings to standardize and set levels of competency.

Fees are another sore point for many.  Some charge as high as $40,000 USD for an attunement for levels that were never intended in the traditional Reiki practice, while others (like Dianne Stein, author of many books) give away mass attunements for free.   Fees should be set by the individual healer or teacher in agreement with their prayer contact with God to meet the situation at hand.  This would make setting a rate sheet impossible, were it not for the custom of taking an exchange or allowing for "pro bono" cases.

7. A large number of Masters call themselves a Grandmaster? Who is a grandmaster?

There was no provision for this title in the traditional Reiki training as taught by this teacher's benefactors.  Much controversy has surrounded Takata, who went and filed a paper with the clerk of court in Honolulu back in the 1950's stating that she was "Grand Master" of Reiki.  Personally, I would take this as a warning flag of a huge ego.

When I used to speak in public about Reiki and do demonstrations, I was offered a lot of resistance because I used the term "Master."  I tried to explain that this was traditional and reminded people that "master" means a pre-pubescent boy in England, and it means someone with a one year advanced degree in the academic world.   It got to be so troublesome that I dropped it, calling myself a Reiki Teacher.

8. Whether lineage of a person automatically makes him/her grandmaster?

Lineage is another sore point.  How many people can actually trace themselves back to Usui?  What is the benefit in doing so?  Especially since Usui himself is rejected in his homeland by his own blood relations?  (Go to the reiki.org site to get the details on this controversy)  Would you trust anyone who is an MD from an unaccredited medical school as opposed to someone who graduated with honors from Harvard Medical School?  I suggest common sense as a way to answer this question.

9. Can anybody narrate as what action/reaction takes place in the body, when the Master attunes a person?

I cannot answer what happens in the traditional Reiki attunement as it was never explained to me by my human teachers.

However, I can tell you what happens in Angelic RayKey as this information was given by St. Michael as part of his instructions on how to do the three attunements.  Level 1 brings the 3 lower chakras up to vibrate in resonance with the heart chakra.  Level 2 brings the 3 upper chakras down to vibrate in resonance with the heart chakra.  Level 3 opens the healer/teacher to vibrate in resonance with the universe.  There is a great deal more to it, but this is an explanation in a nutshell.

10. In India, there was an advertisement in the newspaper, saying that his condition had worsened after receiving attunement in Reiki and that he wanted the attunements to be removed. Is it possible?

This has happened to a student-teacher of mine.  Once the RayKey attunements are done, they appear to be permanent.  As an experiment, I tried to remove the energy from myself.  I did this over a long period of time, doing fastings and many ways of clearing.  It did not remove the attunement, only strengthened it.

This is a very important reason you should be selective in who is your student.   Make sure they are ready on a spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical level before you accept them, even into the first level.  If they are carrying karma that must be released, it WILL.  When they are not ready to release it, there can be disasterous consequences.  It is like raising the kundalini without a guru watching over the person.  This can result in madness and death.

11. If a sick Master does the attunement, are there chances of his/her passing on his/her problem to the student?

If RayKey is truly being used, there should be no transfer in either direction.

However, I have had some students who claimed that entities came off one of my interning student assistants into the new student.  Once again, selectiveness in the choice of new student as well as who assists in a class should prevent this from happening for you.

12. If one has severe skin problem or any infectious diseases, is the healer prone to catching that disease, if s/he heals by touch method?

Naturally, sanitation should be practiced, as in all healing disciplines.  Hands should be washed both before and after any session (even if there is no direct contact).   Sheets and anything draped over the healee should also be washed like a massage therapist would.  There are some excellent antibiotic creams available on the market that do not require water to work.  These should be carried with a healer at all times, as you never know when you will be called on to be of assistance.

13. Is it not possible for wisemen in Reiki to make efforts to get recognition as it is in case of Homeopathy or Ayurveda etc systems.

Many Reiki practitioners are already licensed in another healing discipline, or are pastors in some kind of church (the spiritual route).  There are many legal considerations here, each country, state, and city being different.  When you are healing/teaching for money, you must be aware of these legal requirements or the government will shut you down, possibly put you in jail, and otherwise end your career.

14. Is Karuna Reiki more powerful than Reiki, as some say? Karuna being a Hindi word for compassion, how did it join with a Japanese word 'Reiki'?

Karuna Reiki is practiced in Florida by a couple who claim that it is a blending of the Hawaiian Kahuna practices.  I would be highly suspicious of it as it has a large price tag on it.  Perhaps it would be wiser to learn directly from a real Kahuna and blend it with Reiki yourself.

15. An American lady, who usually visits India to initiate in Reiki, recently revealed that Usui was neither a Christian nor a dean of a school. Since he was drawn to healing, he studied Japanese and Chinese medicine and allopathy from missionary doctors. All the books on Reiki till now do not say so. Which is correct?

This has all been documented in the writings of William Rand and can be seen on his website at reiki.org.  Also go to our links page for more such links.

16. There are persons everywhere, who never knew Reiki and never got attuned to, by any Reiki master, but effectively heal the sick using their palms. Even they do mass healing. How this takes place?

Reiki has no corner on the market for healing.  I have seen little children heal the pains of the elderly simply by the kindness of their heart.  The charismatic Christian denominations make laying on of hands a part of every church service.  The Kahunas of Hawaii, the medicine wo/men of Native American Tribes do this also.  The list is endless.  The bottom line is: A) did it work?  and B) did it last?
